Dr. Ashley J. Wallace

Dr. Ashley J. Wallace, Ph.D. is the Assistant Director of Education and Outreach for the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter (LRSM), a University of Pennsylvania materials science research center funded by the National Science Foundation. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before pursuing and obtaining her doctoral degree from the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at THE Ohio State University.

Upon completing her doctoral program, she recognized she had a true desire to combine her love for science with general education. In her current role, Dr. Wallace’s scientific repertoire and commitment to developing a new generation of scientific leaders for an ever-evolving workforce is shown through managing a well-versed portfolio of programs.

She is also heavily involved in the development and implementation of policies that support diversity initiatives and fosters a culturally inclusive scientific community. She strives to combine the skills she’s acquired over her years in academia with her personal experiences to help foster innovation through diversity and inclusion by focusing on the professional and educational advancement of students and early career professionals.

Most recently, she has begun to extend this work to include all levels of education and professional experiences. Her passion and commitment to teach individuals to become more self-motivated and self-aware is how she intends to contribute to molding future leaders.

In 2021, she successfully completed the “Diversity Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace” certification program (University of South Florida Muma College of Business) and subsequently, completed the “Coaching Leaders Program” (GroupWorks Global) in 2022.
